K2 The Savage mount
K2 or Ketu in native language lies in the north-western Karakoram Range. It is at the extreme northern areas of Pakistan and is located at Pak-China border, near Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan.
K2 is the most beautiful highest mount with a height of 8,611 meters from sea level after the Great Mount Everest in Nepal at 8,848 meters from the sea level. This second largest peak of the world is as beautiful for the climbers and as the deadliest dream for them.
It has a unique and different value in high-altitude mountaineering. Though It is been 784 feet lower than Mount Everest, yet famous as the mountaineer’s mountain. The oblique triangle of its silhouette and height above the surrounding terrain not only define the archetypal, terrifying image of a mountain but, as a practical matter, also make K2 far more difficult and dangerous to climb.
K2 historically is known as by many names such as “Godwin Austen mount, ” and “Chigori” but most famous and still known is name proposed by “Thomas Montgomery” in late 18th century. He was Royal surveyor and surveyed this area and named two mounts as K1 and K2. K1 is known as Masherbrum but K2 had no native name because of its remoteness.
Beast in the mount
K2 for some climbers have been considered as a dream, motivation, aim and charm but for some climbers, it have been the worst nightmare as compared to Mount Everest as of 2010 Everest had been summited for 5,104 times on other hands the deadliest K2, just 302 times with 77 fatalities. one K2 climber has faced death for every four who have summited. Moreover, K2 has never been climbed in winter.
Ascendants of Savage Mount
Though its been a dangerous mountain but climbers with full of energy and devotion and motivation do come in Pakistan and try to summit. In early times many attempts by British and Italian climbing teams in the early 1900s it was the first ascent was made in 1953-1954 by Achille Compagnoni and Lino Lacedelli. That was when the terror of this deadliest mount was summited them.
Most of the climbers have used the same path to summit the mount but those who had a summit in early times had set those routes going towards the sky-high. The easiest route in called as “Abbruuzi Spur”.
